The Optimist Club of Kalona offers an opportunity to line the streets with the Community of Flags program on seven national holidays. The Optimist Club will place a 3 x 5 American Flag on a 10 foot pole in front of your home or business on these seven national holidays: Patriots’ Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veteran's Day. The cost for this subscription is $40 a year or $75 for two years. We offer the Flag program to residents within the city limits of Kalona, as well as the two subdivisions on the East and West sides of Kalona.

Volunteers will deliver the flags and retrieve them on the noted holidays. A flagpole receptacle, which remains in your yard, will be installed in front of your home or business approximately fifteen inches off the curb that lines up with the front door. It will protrude approximately 1/2 inch above the ground with a cap so as not to interfere with normal mowing. We will contact Iowa One-Call so utilities are not disturbed when placing a new receptacle.

Please join your neighbors in this colorful, patriotic program. Consider subscribing in honor of a soldier or in memory of a veteran or loved one. Subscriptions also make great gifts. You can donate a subscription to someone else's home or business. If you would like to have more than one flag at your home or business, you may do so by adding another subscription.

All proceeds from the posting of the Community of Flags will go to support the Optimist Club of Kalona's activities and projects benefiting our local youth organizations.
